The 10 Best High Carb Vegan Sauces

10 Best High Carb Vegan Sauces

Everyone is always looking for simple ways to add more flavor to their starch-based vegan meals. Making sauces is time consuming and if you’re busy, having some delicious sauces that you can grab at your local grocer can make it that much easier to eat more plant-based meals.

The same sauces from different parts of the world or different brands can vary with the ingredients so make sure to double check the ingredient list on the back.

In today’s article we are going to give you 10 oil free vegan sauces that are our favorites.

There are 2 conditions each sauce has to meet:

  1. 100% plant-based (no animal derivatives)
  2. Free from any oils

#1 Ketchup

The first sauce is ketchup. It is awesome on potatoes or hashbrowns. Go for the best all organic natural brand you can get like Annie’s.

Ingredients

  • tomato concentrate from red ripe tomatoes, distilled vinegar, high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, *alsosalt salt substitute (potassium chloride, l-lysine monohydrochloride), natural flavoring, spice, onion powder

#2 BBQ Sauce

BBQ sauce is a great addition to any HCLF fridge. This is great to put on fries or on a rice and veggie meal. Trader Joe’s has an awesome BBQ sauce.

Ingredients

  • tomato puree (water, tomato paste), sugar, distilled vinegar, cornstarch, salt, spice, molasses, natural flavor, caramel color, onion, garlic

#3 Sriracha

Sriracha is very well known vegan sauce that can be put on just about anything. The huy fong brand is our favorite.

Ingredients

  • chili, sugar, salt, garlic, distilled vinegar, potassium sorbate, sodium bisulfite as preservatives and xanthan gum

#4 Organic Tamari

Tamari is a great gluten free alternative to soy sauce. Go for organic version and top over your rice and veggies meal.

Ingredients

  • water, organic soybeans, salt, organic alcohol (to preserve freshness)

#5 Frank’s Buffalo Sauce

Don’t be scared by the ‘natural butter type flavor’. This wing sauce is vegan and doesn’t use any animal derivatives. Like the sriracha this can be put on anything.

Ingredients

  • distilled vinegar, aged cayenne red peppers, salt, water, canola oil, paparika, xanthan gum, natural butter type flavor, garlic powder

#6 Cholula

Cholula is an awesome hot sauce coming from Mexico. It is awesome in burritos and burrito bowls. Try it out!

Ingredients

  • water, peppers (arbol and piquin), salt, vinegar, spices, xanthan gum

#7 Carolina Bold BBQ Sauce

This is my new favorite sauce from Trader Joe’s. It has a mustardy BBQ flavor and goes great on potato fries or in rice dishes.

Ingredients

  • cane sugar, yellow mustard (distilled vinegar, water, mustard seed), distilled vinegar, tomato puree (water tomato paste), sea salt, corn starch, worcestershire sauce (distilled vinegar, molasses, sea salt, sugar, spices, tamarind), molasses, spices, garlic, onion, natural smoke flavor, xanthan gum

#8 Chili Pepper Sauce

This is another great sauce from Trader Joe’s. It is similar to Cholula but has a more smoky flavor to it.

Ingredients

  • chili peppers, distilled vinegar, sugar, spices, xanthan gum

#9 Sweet Chili Sauce

Sweet chili sauce is great for dipping and to give your rice meal and nice sweet kick to it. There are lots of brands to choose from so go with the best one you know of.

Ingredients

  • water, sugar, red chili, modified tapioca starch, garlic, acetic acid, salt

#10 Jalapeno Pepper Sauce

Another hot sauce. This jalapeno hot sauce is so delicious and can be used in almost anything. Try this one out for sure!

Ingredients

  • red ripened jalapeno peppers, distilled vinegar, salt

  1. Thanks for these, but what about those of us who don’t like hot flavors? Could you make a video for us? Like what about your fav cheese sauce?

  2. I noticed in #5 Frank’s Buffalo Sauce, does have some canola oil in it… I suppose it’s further down on the ingredient list. So maybe use sparingly? 😛 Great post!!
